Denver Startup Week

Denver Startup Week

Don't be afraid to fail. Don't waste energy trying to cover up failure. Learn from your failures and go on to the next challenge. It's OK to fail. If you're not failing, you're not growing.

~ H. Stanley Judd

Denver Startup Week is moving and shaking. With over 5k participants there is so much knowledge to be consumed, so many ambitious minds to engage. Polsinelli was gracious to host one particular gem, the Denver Startup Week Breakfast. While influential minds shared their insights, one in particular by the name of Brad Feld shared his experience and identified a new term Bart Lorang of Full Contact coined, "Doertocracy."

Start doing, don't ask permission, don't wait to get the ok. By the time you have the answers you are looking for from someone or something, is the same time you could have spent finding the answers by doing.

Take initiative. Take control. Be willing to risk and understand, without failure, there is no growth.

The Mission of the Entrepreneur

What we do as entrepreneurs is art. "It's hard because there is no map," says Seth Godin. This is uncharted territory, no predictive algorhythms exist, no outline for success. If there was, the art we create would be just another Monet painted by number.

The industrial age fades as we develop and identify our own voices. The microphones we use to make noise and share our 'art' comes with a WiFi  connection, and the art we make is to bring all of us closer together.

You stand in your own way. The thing that holds you back is fear. Don't wait for others, just start... you will figure it out.

"The real mission as an entrepreneur is to delight and overwhelm the weird... this 'tribe' can't imagine going forward without you."

~ Seth Godin

Denver Startup Week

The day began with a stroll through Writers Square in search of Denver Startup Week Basecamp off of 16th and Larimer. Greeted by friendly volunteers sporting the blue mountains and downtown Denver's skyline shirts, it was a pleasing and inviting location for all those looking to network, connect, grab a cup of coffee and such. Chase out-did themselves!

The second annual Denver Startup Week is here and it’s overflowing with ambitious, driven and hungry entrepreneurs. There’s not a block in Denver you won’t see a startup T'shirt within the crowd.

Over 5,000 people have registered and over 125 meetings and sessions are taking place over the next week. There is buzz that Denver Startup Week in time will rival the highly successful SXSWi.

"The core intent is that we want Denver Startup Week to be a true celebration of everything startup in Denver and Colorado," said CTA CEO Erik Mitisek. "We're inspired by things like South by Southwest, but we want to do it Denver-style."

Yesterday's Kickoff Luncheon was without a doubt a success.

3 Ways Small Companies Rock

Mike King

Working with a smaller software company can be a big advantage to customers that require a mix of nimbleness, quality and responsiveness.  This combination can overcome resource limitations to provide high value products and services.

Small Company Speed

Small companies are typically comprised of company founders and early employees who thoroughly understand the company’s mission, vision and product set.  This motivated group is quick to comprehend customer needs and is empowered to move fast to deliver solutions.  While large companies often have more resources upon which to draw, they are typically fraught with red tape and politics that bog down product development processes.
